Chhatarpur, April 20: A doctor at the Chhatarpur district hospital in Madhya Pradesh has been sacked and a senior health official suspended after a video showing a 70-year-old man being dragged by two men went viral on social media. The incident occurred on April 17 when Uddhav Singh Joshi, a resident of Naugaon, visited the hospital for his wife’s medical check-up.

Joshi alleged that Dr Rajesh Mishra slapped and kicked him for allegedly breaking the queue, leading to him being forcibly removed. “I waited in line with my slip, but when my turn came, the doctor got angry and assaulted me,” Joshi told reporters.

While civil surgeon GL Ahirwar claimed the area was overcrowded and that Joshi had jumped the line, district authorities took swift action following public outrage. Dr Mishra, a contractual orthopaedic specialist, was terminated by National Health Mission director Saloni Sidana, while Ahirwar was suspended for negligence and failure to supervise hospital staff.

A ‘zero FIR’ has also been filed against Mishra under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the case has been transferred to Chhatarpur’s Kotwali police station.

The district collector, Parth Jaiswal, had earlier issued show-cause notices and recommended action against those involved, including Rajendra Khare, an employee of the State Red Cross Society, whose termination has also been sought.
