PATIALA, FEB 8: The Governor’s Secretariat announced the appointment of Dr. Pushpinder Singh Gill as the Vice-Chancellor of The Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University (MBSPSU), Patiala. The official notification, issued by Principal Secretary to Governor Vivek Pratap Singh, confirms Dr. Gill will lead the institution for a three-year tenure starting from his date of assumption of office.
The decision was finalized by the University Chancellor under the provisions of the Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University Act, 2019. This leadership change comes as the university seeks to strengthen its position as a hub for athletic and academic excellence in the region.
Dr. Gill, a retired professor from Punjabi University, Patiala, possesses over 36 years of experience across the fields of research, administration, and international consulting. His academic journey includes a doctorate in marketing and management, alongside decades of teaching experience at various levels of seniority.
The new Vice-Chancellor mentioned his intent to transform the university into a national benchmark for integrated sports education. He noted that his goal is to create an ecosystem where science translates into “podium performance” and professional careers within the sports sector.
Beyond his academic background, Dr. Gill served as a Chief Executive Officer for The Coca-Cola Company in several African nations between 1999 and 2001. The university administration noted that this blend of corporate governance and academic rigor is expected to benefit the institution’s strategic growth.
His scholarly record includes the publication of 84 research papers and 10 books, including the series “The Punjab That Was Not.” He has also supervised 30 doctoral candidates and provided executive training for major multinational firms like PepsiCo and Cadbury Schweppes.
