Kharar, Feb 9: Kharar police arrested two individuals on drug charges after intercepting a luxury car during a routine security check at Nijjer Chowk. The stop, initially prompted by the vehicle’s tinted windows and an unauthorized Punjab Police sticker, led to the recovery of 10.20 grams of contraband and drug money on February 7.
The occupants of the Patiala-registered BMW, identified as Amandeep Singh and Harmanjeet Singh, were taken into custody after a search of the vehicle and their person revealed the prohibited substances. Police officials mentioned that their suspicion was further raised when they discovered a weighing scale inside the car while the suspects engaged in an argument with the officers.
“The suspects were arrested and produced in court,” Kharar DSP Karan Singh Sandhu said. “They have been sent to two days’ police remand. Amandeep, who has his own business, is the owner of the car.”
Upon frisking the driver, Amandeep Singh, officers found 5.20 grams of heroin and Rs 10,000 in cash. The co-passenger, Harmanjeet Singh, was reportedly in possession of 5 grams of intoxicating powder. In addition to the drugs and cash, the police seized four mobile phones from the duo.
Authorities have booked the pair under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, along with relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for the unauthorized use of police insignia and other violations.
“Police are probing where the contraband was being bought and supplied,” the DSP directly said regarding the ongoing investigation.
The vehicle and the recovered items remain in police custody at the City Kharar police station as investigators work to trace the supply chain connected to the suspects.
