TORONTO, October 13 — Canadian authorities have arrested eight Indian-origin men in connection with a series of mail thefts, seizing over 450 stolen items, including credit cards and cheques valued at more than CAD 400,000, local media reported.
The Peel Regional Police, in coordination with Halton Police and Canada Post, launched “Project Undeliverable” in April following reports of residential mailbox thefts. According to a police news release cited by CTV News, the investigation revealed “a group of individuals working together to target residential mailboxes, resulting in widespread theft and disruption to community members.”
Search warrants executed in September recovered 465 pieces of stolen mail, including 255 cheques, 182 credit cards, 35 government IDs, and 20 gift cards.
The suspects have been identified as Sumanpreet Singh, Gurdeep Chattha, Jashandeep Jattana, Harman Singh, Jasanpreet Singh, Manroop Singh, Rajbir Singh, and Upinderjit Singh, all aged between 21 and 29. They face a total of 344 charges, including multiple counts of theft and possession of property obtained by crime, CBC reported.
Authorities said discussions are underway with the Crown Attorney’s Office and the Canada Border Services Agency regarding the potential deportation of some foreign nationals among the accused.
The joint operation has highlighted ongoing efforts by Canadian law enforcement to combat organized mail theft, protecting residents from financial losses and identity theft.
