Ludhiana, October 29: Residents in Punjab will soon be able to access all Regional Transport Office (RTO) services without visiting the offices physically, as the state government prepares to launch “faceless” transport services across all districts.
AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann are scheduled to jointly launch the initiative in Ludhiana. Officials said the move aims to make public transport services more accessible, transparent, and efficient.
Under the new system, citizens can visit their nearest Sewa Kendra to apply for or renew driving licences, registration certificates (RCs), and vehicle permits. “All 56 RTO-related services will now be available at Sewa Kendras,” said Varun Roojam, Administrative Secretary, Transport Department. “The idea is to provide convenience to citizens by ensuring services are delivered smoothly at their local Sewa Kendras.”
According to officials, staff members at these centres have undergone special training to handle transport-related work. In Ludhiana alone, nearly 50 Sewa Kendras will cater to residents.
Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain said the new facility would save people from multiple RTO visits and long waiting periods. “If any objection is raised, applicants will be notified via email or text message to submit the required documents. The initiative will ensure greater transparency and accountability,” Jain noted.
