SAS Nagar, March 26:SAS Nagar Police busted a fake drug and supplement unit in Zirakpur as part of the ongoing Yudh Nasheya Virudh campaign, seizing a massive haul of spurious drugs, opium, weapons, and cash, Senior Superintendent of Police Deepak Pareek said on Wednesday.
The SSP stated that the police arrested accused Lavish Grover from Flat No. 12 C, Shiva Enclave, Singhpura, Zirakpur, on March 21, following a brief encounter.
“Grover fired three rounds at the police team when they knocked on his door. In the retaliatory firing, he sustained a leg injury,” Pareek said.
Following the arrest, the police recovered 400 grams of opium, ₹2.5 lakh in cash, and illegal weapons from Grover’s flat.
During interrogation, he revealed that he had handed over a portion of the opium and a weapon to his accomplice, Gurpreet Singh of Shere village, Sangrur district.
Based on this information, the police raided Flat H-168, Orbit Apartment, opposite Triple C Mall on VIP Road, Zirakpur, arresting Gurpreet Singh (28).
“The team recovered 800 grams of opium, a .32 bore pistol with two magazines, and 12 live cartridges from him,” the SSP said.
Further investigation led the police to a fake drug unit at Flat 9-A, Shiva Enclave, Singhpura, Zirakpur.
The raid resulted in the seizure of 1,24,600 tablets and 1,75,000 injection vials used as anabolic steroids, along with five types of packing and filling machinery, police added.
“These fake drugs, widely misused in bodybuilding, have been handed over to Drug Control Officers for further investigation under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act,” Pareek said.
The police also recovered several weapons and vehicles from Grover, including a 30mm pistol with a magazine and four live cartridges, a Glock 9mm pistol with a magazine and two live cartridges, and a 12-bore double-barrel gun with 16 live cartridges. The seized vehicles included an Audi (CH01-AQ-1200), a Mercedes (DL-3CBU-2828), and a Peugeot (UP16-AB-0890).
Pareek mentioned that Grover has a criminal history with 10 FIRs filed against him in SBS Nagar, Ludhiana, and SAS Nagar districts under various sections, including the Arms Act, Drug and Cosmetics Act, and other serious crimes. Grover is currently undergoing treatment at Civil Hospital, Derabassi.
Police are investigating the backward and forward linkages of both accused to identify their suppliers and distribution network.
