Faridkot, July 4: DSP Rajan Pal, currently posted with the Crime Against Women Cell in Faridkot, has been arrested under the Prevention of Corruption Act after allegedly offering a bribe to derail a complaint of corruption filed against him.

The arrest came after Rajan Pal was caught attempting to pay ₹1 lakh to ASI Jaswinder Singh, reader to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr Pragya Jain. The bribe was reportedly meant to suppress a formal complaint lodged by a local woman’s family, who accused the officer of extorting money from them in a matrimonial dispute.

The original complaint was filed by Kiranjit Kaur, a resident of Pakka village, who alleged that DSP Rajan Pal demanded ₹1 lakh to act on her case. Her brother, Karmtej Singh, supported the claim, saying the money was paid but no police action followed.

When the family brought the issue to SSP Dr Jain, an internal inquiry was ordered. Amid the investigation, Rajan Pal allegedly attempted to bribe ASI Jaswinder Singh to ensure the complaint did not proceed further.

“A DSP offering a bribe to silence a corruption complaint is deeply concerning. No one is above the law,” said SSP Dr Jain, confirming the arrest.

The officer is now facing legal proceedings under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The police department has also launched a departmental inquiry into the matter.
