FARIDKOT, Dec 10, 2025 — A farm labourer family in Punjab’s Faridkot district has fled their home after winning ₹1.5 crore in the Punjab State Lottery, fearing extortion threats instead of celebrating their unexpected fortune.
Nasib Kaur, a daily-wage worker from Saideke village, won the jackpot after her husband Ram Singh bought a ₹200 ticket in her name. Their house now stands locked, and all family phones remain switched off as they have shifted to an undisclosed location.
The couple initially did not know they had won. Lottery seller Raju from nearby Sadiq town said he spotted the winning number on December 6 and tried calling Ram Singh for nearly a day before he finally answered. Singh, who was in Rajasthan at the time, had been buying only ₹50 tickets for two years. “I told him to try a bigger ticket this time,” Raju said.
The family, which includes three married daughters and an unmarried son who works as a labourer, panicked after learning of the windfall, convinced it could attract unwanted attention.
Their fears prompted a visit from the Faridkot police, who traced them and assured them of protection. “Nasib Kaur has won ₹1.5 crore, and the family is worried someone may threaten them,” said DSP Tarlochan Singh. “We contacted them and assured them that if they receive any suspicious call, they must inform us immediately. The police stand with them.”
