Barnala, March 4— Bharti Kisan Union (Ekta-Ugrahan) activists blocked two police vehicles for over four hours in Fatehgarh Chhanna village, Barnala district, early Tuesday, preventing personnel from detaining farmer leaders.

The standoff, which began at 4:30 am and continued until 9 am, was part of a broader police crackdown aimed at placing farmer leaders in preventive detention ahead of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha’s week-long protest in Chandigarh starting March 5.

“Nine police personnel arrived in two vehicles. We blocked the road as they attempted to arrest our leaders,” said BKU (Ekta-Ugrahan) Barnala block vice-president Krishan Singh.

Another leader, Baljinder Singh, criticized the Punjab government’s approach, saying, “We met CM Bhagwant Mann on Monday, but he refused to address our demands. This morning, the police raided our leaders’ homes, proving the government’s anti-farmer stance.”

Following the protest, police left the village without making any arrests.
