Kaithal, March 10: Members of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Charuni) organized a tractor march in Pundri on Tuesday to voice their opposition to a proposed trade deal between India and the United States. Gathering at the local grain market under the leadership of district president Gurnam Singh Farl and state youth president Vikram Kasana, hundreds of farmers called for the immediate scrapping of the agreement.

The protest march moved through major landmarks, including Brahmanand Chowk and the local bus stand, before concluding at the tehsil office. Protesters there burned copies of the trade pact to signify their dissent. Union leaders declared that the proposed deal represents a significant threat to the livelihoods of domestic agricultural workers.

Vikram Kasana stated that the agreement appears designed to favor American agricultural interests at the expense of Indian farmers. He maintained that allowing U.S. products into the country at zero tariff would create an uneven playing field. “Earlier, attempts were made through the three farm laws to hand over agriculture to corporates,” Kasana asserted, adding that the current proposal is viewed by the union as another attempt to undermine the sector.

The union also announced plans for a “Kisan-Mazdoor Jan Kranti” rally on March 23 in Pipli, Kurukshetra. The event, scheduled to coincide with the martyrdom day of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev, is expected to draw representatives from various social and farmer organizations. Farm leaders affirmed that the rally will serve as a platform to announce the next phase of their agitation and address broader issues, including electricity bills, healthcare, and a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP).
