Chandigarh, April 22: The Punjab Government has sanctioned a substantial relief package of ₹123.28 crore for farmers whose crops were ravaged by severe hailstorms last month. Revenue, Rehabilitation, and Disaster Management Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian affirmed Wednesday that the funds are aimed at providing immediate support to cultivators across 111 villages in seven districts. The relief follows urgent field assessments conducted by district administrations to ensure financial aid reaches farmers during the critical harvesting season.
Data from the Revenue Department shows that the compensation covers damage spanning 92,695 acres of farmland. The allocation includes relief for varying degrees of loss, ranging from 26 percent damage to total crop failure. Hardeep Singh Mundian stated that the government stands shoulder to shoulder with the farming community in times of distress and ensures that financial hardship caused by natural calamities is reduced through immediate intervention.
Among the impacted regions, Fazilka district received the highest allocation of more than ₹44.24 crore, while Sri Muktsar Sahib was granted over ₹43.01 crore. Significant amounts were also approved for Bathinda, Moga, and Amritsar. The Minister maintained that the compensation mechanism was designed to be fair and transparent, precisely matching the relief to the severity of the loss reported on the ground.
To ensure the swift delivery of these funds, the Revenue Department has directed deputy commissioners to complete all remaining administrative formalities without delay. Hardeep Singh Mundian declared that the administration is fully committed to safeguarding the interests of the agricultural sector. He asserted that providing immediate financial cushions during natural disasters is a central pillar of the government’s approach to rural livelihoods.
