Father, Son Killed in Shimla Car Accident

Shimla, April 23: A father-son duo was killed while three others were injured when their car plunged into a 100-metre gorge near Riyuni in Shimla’s Chopal subdivision, police said on Wednesday.

The incident occurred near the Lankra Veer Temple while the group was en route to Pulbahal from Chopal. The victims, identified as Ramlal Sharma (55) and his son Deepak (28), both residents of Shihali village, died at the scene.

Three others were injured in the crash: Ramlal’s wife Suman, Rajesh Sharma of Dharot village, and Pankaj Sharma, a resident of Dhanach village in Rajgarh, Sirmour district. Locals who witnessed the incident immediately informed the authorities, and a police team quickly arrived at the location.

The team successfully rescued the injured from the gorge and recovered the bodies. The injured were rushed to Civil Hospital in Chopal before being referred to Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla for further treatment.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Chopal, Sushant Sharma, confirmed the fatalities and stated that an investigation is currently underway. “We are thoroughly investigating the cause of the accident,” DSP Sharma said.

In response to the tragedy, the district administration has provided immediate relief, granting Rs 25,000 to the families of the deceased and Rs 7,000 each to the injured.
