Bengaluru, Karnataka — A case has been registered against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), event management firm DNA Entertainment Private Limited, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) following the deadly stampede near Chinnaswamy Stadium that claimed 11 lives and injured 56 people.
The FIR was filed on Thursday at Cubbon Park police station after a complaint by a police inspector. In the complaint, RCB is named as accused 1, DNA Entertainment Private Limited as accused 2, and the KSCA Administrative Committee as accused 3.
The case has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for detailed inquiry.
Police said the FIR invokes multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), Section 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), Section 118 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt using dangerous means), Section 121 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant), Section 190 (offence by members of unlawful assembly), Section 132 (assault to deter public servants), and Section 125 (12) (acts endangering life or safety).
The tragedy occurred during a special felicitation ceremony organised by the KSCA to honour RCB players after their historic IPL victory. The stampede broke out as thousands of fans gathered near the stadium, leading to chaos.
In response, the Karnataka state government has ordered a magisterial probe headed by Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
