Mumbai, June 5 — A fire broke out at a shop inside the bustling Churchgate railway station on Thursday evening, triggering panic among peak-hour commuters at one of Mumbai’s busiest suburban terminals.

The incident was reported around 5:25 pm, according to the Western Railway. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Mumbai Fire Brigade teams, supported by police and local civic authorities, responded swiftly to control the blaze. “The fire was extinguished within minutes,” a civic official said. “We are investigating the cause of the fire and assessing the extent of damage.”

Though the fire was small, dense smoke quickly filled the station’s concourse, choking visibility and prompting police to ask commuters to avoid the area temporarily.

“It was chaotic. One could barely see the indicators. Smoke was pouring out of the station,” said a commuter caught in the confusion.

Thousands of people rely on Churchgate station daily, especially during evening rush hours, making the situation tense despite the rapid response.

Authorities are continuing their probe into the incident and are expected to review fire safety measures at the station.
