Yamunanagar, Jan 30: The police have registered a case against five doctors in Yamunanagar district following allegations of gross medical negligence during a caesarean delivery. The complaint, filed by a resident of Bibipur village, claims that two doctors at a private hospital in Jagadhri left a surgical sponge inside her abdomen during a procedure on March 13, 2025. The legal action also names two radiologists and a surgeon from another facility for their alleged involvement in attempting to hide the medical error.
According to the complainant, Mehar Khatoon, the complication arose after she was admitted for delivery and underwent surgery. Despite being discharged, she suffered from persistent and severe abdominal pain, prompting her to seek diagnostic help at various ultrasound centers. She alleged that the radiologists who conducted these tests intentionally suppressed the findings to protect their colleagues at the Jagadhri hospital.
“Later, I was admitted to a private hospital in Panchkula, where further examination confirmed the presence of a surgical sponge inside my abdomen,” Khatoon told the police. Following the discovery, a second surgical procedure was performed at the Panchkula facility to successfully remove the foreign object.
The investigation has revealed a suspected collaborative effort to make the evidence disappear. Khatoon claimed that a surgeon in Yamunanagar also participated in the attempt to assist the doctors involved in the initial surgery. While the police have proceeded with the FIR based on these statements and medical findings from the Panchkula hospital, the accused doctors have denied all charges.
The medical professionals named in the case have directly said to the media that the allegations against them are unfounded. As the inquiry progresses, the health department is expected to review the clinical records and diagnostic reports from the local centers to determine the extent of the alleged cover-up.
