JALANDHAR, Aug 14 — Five individuals were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly running a narcotics and arms smuggling network in Jalandhar, police said.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav described the arrests as a major breakthrough, noting that 1.5 kg of heroin and seven .32-bore pistols were recovered from the accused. “This operation has dealt a significant blow to drug-arms smugglers in the region, preventing further distribution of narcotics and curbing illegal arms circulation,” he said.
Commissioner of Police Dhanpreet Kaur Randhawa identified the accused as Vinay Kumar, Major Singh, Kulwinder Singh, Gurpreet Singh, and Gagandeep Singh, all residents of Jalandhar. “All the accused are habitual and wanted criminals. Vijay and Major were arrested on July 21 after their names surfaced during interrogation,” she said.
Randhawa added that Gurpreet Singh is facing five criminal cases, while Gagandeep and Kulwinder have one case each registered against them. “All accused are currently in police remand, and further interrogation is underway to uncover their entire criminal network,” she said.
