BANGA, Punjab, Nov 17— Tension gripped the Banga area on Monday afternoon after a shooting left five youths injured, two of them critically, in what police said was the result of an ongoing local rivalry.

The incident took place near the Banga bus stand when Honey Bal of Mehrampur, along with friends Rimpal (22), Sujan (21), and Noni (23), were sitting in his Scorpio. Police said a white Hyundai i20 carrying three to four unidentified men pulled up, opened fire, and discharged about a dozen rounds before fleeing the scene.

All four occupants of the Scorpio sustained gunshot injuries. The injured were rushed to Guru Nanak Mission Charitable Hospital, Dhahan. Rimpal’s condition was serious, while the two other critically injured victims were referred to DMC Ludhiana for advanced treatment.

Police identified Honey Bal, the main victim, as the brother of Babbu Maan of Mehrampur, who has a known criminal background. Authorities said the attack appears linked to a long-standing enmity between local groups.

An FIR has been registered naming the accused, and police are reviewing CCTV footage, conducting raids, and increasing patrols in adjoining areas.

Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar SP confirmed the incident, noting that the investigation is ongoing to apprehend the attackers and ensure public safety in the area.
