Follow Visa Rules or Deport: US Warns Students

NEW DELHI, May 27— The United States on Tuesday issued a renewed warning to international students, including those from India, urging strict compliance with visa requirements or risk serious consequences, including deportation and ineligibility for future visas.

“If you drop out, skip classes, or leave your program of study without informing your school, your student visa may be revoked, and you may lose eligibility for future US visas,” read a statement from the US Embassy in India. “Always adhere to the terms of your visa and maintain your student status to avoid any issues.”

The warning reinforces the US government’s increasingly stringent stance on student visa enforcement, a trend that began during the Trump administration and continues to affect thousands of international students. According to embassy officials, non-compliance with academic obligations could trigger immediate visa termination.

International students, particularly those from India—the second-largest group of foreign students in the US—are reminded that maintaining full-time enrollment and academic progress is mandatory under US immigration law.

US authorities have raised concerns that some students either drop out or fail to communicate properly with their academic institutions, placing them in violation of their visa status. “We want students to succeed,” an embassy spokesperson said. “But they must understand that their presence in the United States is contingent on meeting their visa obligations.”

This latest advisory is part of a broader effort by the US government to ensure that student visa holders remain in compliance throughout their academic tenure.
