Chief Minister and political leaders pay tribute to veteran leader at Rajpura Road

Patiala, March 29: The mortal remains of former Minister Lal Singh were consigned to the flames with full government honors at the Bir Ji crematorium on Sunday. The 84-year-old veteran leader, who passed away on Saturday, was bid a tearful farewell by a large gathering of political, religious, and social figures.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Navreet Kaur Sekhon attended the ceremony to lay a wreath on behalf of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. His son, former MLA Rajinder Singh, lit the funeral pyre following traditional religious rites. A contingent of the Patiala Police provided a guard of honor, playing a mournful tune and firing a salute as a mark of respect.

MLA Ajitpal Singh Kohli and MLA Gurdev Singh Dev Mann represented the Punjab government and the Aam Aadmi Party respectively, offering floral tributes at the site. Officials stated that the ceremony was attended by a diverse range of dignitaries, including Member of Parliament Dr. Dharamvir Gandhi and various former ministers.

According to family sources, the floral wreath-picking ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, March 31, at 8 a.m. at the crematorium. A final prayer and tribute session will be held on Friday, April 10, at Gurdwara Patshahi 9th Sri Moti Bagh Sahib between 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m.

The gathering included prominent local leaders such as Municipal Corporation Mayor Kundan Gogia and District Planning Committee Chairman Tejinder Mehta. They affirmed that the late leader’s contributions to the region were widely recognized by the various political and social organizations present.
