Patna, 23 January 2025: Police in Bihar’s Patna recovered empty bullet shells from the residence of suspects Sonu and Monu in Jamalpur village a day after a firing incident reportedly involving former MLA Anant Kumar Singh.
Authorities are investigating whether the exchange of gunfire between two groups stemmed from political motives.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rakesh Kumar stated, “Conflicting versions have emerged. Some villagers allege the former MLA’s supporters fired initial shots on his instructions, while others claim it was a mutual exchange between two groups. No injuries, including to the former MLA, have been reported so far.”
Sonu Kumar’s father, Pramod Singh, accused Singh of aerial firing and threatening his family, leaving them in a life-threatening situation. “My wife and grandson narrowly escaped. The former MLA urged his men to continue firing. If not for the administration’s intervention, it could have been a massacre,” he said. Singh further alleged, “This is politically motivated. All cases against my son and me were orchestrated by him. We once had good relations, but now his intentions are malicious.”
Urmila Sinha, the suspects’ mother, recounted the chaos. “He arrived, fired shots, and demanded my sons come out. He even abused us and threatened my family. What if my grandson had been harmed?” she asked, urging authorities to act.
Sonu Kumar rejected the allegations and claimed the former MLA was staging a political conspiracy. “I was at my farm when this happened. When I returned, I saw him abusing people and firing shots from his vehicle. Locals surrounded him, prompting him to flee. He’s mentally unstable and fabricating false claims to target me.”
The investigation is ongoing, with police aiming to uncover the precise motive and sequence of events in the shooting incident.
