Former Punjab Minister Cremated with Full State Honours

Patiala, January 5 – Ajaib Singh Mukhmelpur, the former Punjab Minister and MLA from Ghanaur, was cremated with full state honours at his native village Mukhmelpur after passing away at 75 following a prolonged illness.

The Punjab Government, represented by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Deputy Commissioner Patiala Dr. Preeti Yadav, paid tribute to the late leader by laying wreaths.

A police contingent honored Mukhmelpur with a weapon salute during the ceremony. His son, Ajaypreet Singh Mukhmelpur, performed the last rites.

The former minister, who served as a cabinet member, is survived by his wife Bibi Harpreet Kaur, son Ajaypreet Singh, and daughters, among other family members. A public memorial will be held on January 6 at 9 a.m.

Political and social figures including Sanour MLA Harjashan Singh Pathanmajra, former ministers Harmel Singh Tohra, Adesh Pratap Singh Kairon, Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema, and others joined the family and community in paying their respects. They remembered Mukhmelpur as a dedicated leader connected deeply to his roots and committed to public service.

The funeral was marked by heartfelt tributes from family, friends, and officials, highlighting the profound loss felt by the Mukhmelpur family and the community.
