LUDHIANA, OCT 4: A 55-year-old former sarpanch of Mannewal village, Navjeet Singh Neetu, was shot dead by two motorcycle-borne assailants on South City Road in the Ladhowal area of Ludhiana district on Saturday evening. Law enforcement authorities reported that the attackers intercepted Neetu while he was traveling toward his property and opened fire at close range. The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene, while the shooters fled immediately after the assault.
Police personnel secured the crime scene and recovered four shell casings during initial evidence collection. ACP (West) Jatinderpal Singh stated that an FIR has been registered against eight individuals, including two named suspects and six unidentified persons. Ladhowal SHO Sukhwinder Singh affirmed that the case was filed following a formal complaint by the victim’s family, noting that preliminary inquiries pointed toward an ongoing property dispute involving a business associate in Mannewal village. Investigating officers maintained that surveillance footage across the transit route is being reviewed to establish the timeline and track down the perpetrators.
