Mohali, September 29: Fortis Healthcare will invest more than ₹900 crore to expand its Mohali campus, a move Punjab officials say will make the state a “vibrant, healthy, and future-ready” center for advanced medical care.
Industries Minister Sanjeev Arora announced the expansion on Sunday, noting that it will add over 400 beds and establish a world-class Centre of Excellence on 13.4 acres. “This unprecedented investment will create more than 2,200 direct jobs for the state’s youth, besides thousands of indirect employment opportunities,” Arora said.
The project will feature state-of-the-art facilities, including advanced ICUs, cardiology, oncology, organ transplant, robotic surgery, and over 40 super-specialty departments. Currently, the Mohali campus operates with 375 beds, including 194 ICU beds. The new development is part of a broader public-private partnership (PPP) model aimed at turning Punjab into a global hub for healthcare.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, whose government has emphasized healthcare reforms, called the project a step toward building a modern medical ecosystem across Punjab. He has already launched over 800 Aam Aadmi Clinics that provide free medicines and 38 diagnostic services. “Affordable, timely, and quality health services are reaching every citizen,” Mann said, adding that the Fortis expansion would further boost Punjab’s health sector ranking.
Fortis has steadily built its presence in Punjab since 2013, investing more than ₹1,500 crore in healthcare infrastructure. Its network includes a 259-bed super-specialty campus in Ludhiana, while facilities in Amritsar and Jalandhar also serve as regional referral points.
Health Minister Sanjeev Arora stressed that the government is committed to a “complete transformation in healthcare” by expanding PPP projects. The Hospital PPP Act, passed recently, has enabled pilot projects to improve medical resources, bring in new technology, and ensure availability of doctors. “The direct benefit will go to common people in the form of free or affordable services,” he said.
Officials said the expansion of Mohali into a medical capital will not only strengthen healthcare delivery but also open new avenues for medical tourism. In the long term, Punjab is expected to emerge as North India’s largest and most strategically important healthcare hub.
“The partnership between the Punjab government and Fortis Healthcare will prove to be a milestone in building a healthy, advanced, and prosperous Punjab,” an official statement noted. “This model of resilience and growth will stand as an example for India and the world.”
