Karnal, December 3 — Four people were killed on Wednesday morning after a truck being driven on the wrong side of National Highway-44 collided with a Punjab Roadways bus, a car and two motorcycles near Gharaunda, police said.
The truck, heading toward Delhi at high speed, crossed to the opposite carriageway and hit an Amritsar-bound bus before overturning. The overturned vehicle crushed a Delhi-registered Maruti Ciaz and two motorcycles.
“The truck driver was on the wrong side and speeding. The impact was massive,” a police official at the scene said.
The motorcyclists were identified as Sanjeev Kumar and Vishal Kumar, both from Gharaunda. Police said the two occupants of the Ciaz died on the spot and efforts to identify them were underway.
The truck driver and his helper suffered serious injuries and are receiving treatment at Karnal Civil Hospital. “Their condition is critical,” a hospital doctor said.
No injuries were reported among the driver or passengers of the Punjab Roadways bus, police noted.
