Kangra, 15 August 2025: Kangra district police on Friday arrested four residents of Gurdaspur, Punjab, after recovering 25.19 grams of ‘chitta’ (heroin) from their possession during a routine patrol near Gaggal.
The accused have been identified as Gurinder Singh (30) of Rasulpur, Rupinder Kaur (21) of Neelkalan, Arithpal (22) of Rasulpur, and Rupinder Singh (26) of Dapai. Police officials said the suspects were travelling in a vehicle when they were intercepted by a patrol team. Upon searching the vehicle, officers found packets containing the banned substance concealed in a compartment.
SP Ashok Rattan, who heads both the Nurpur and Kangra police districts, confirmed that a case has been registered against the four under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. “Our anti-drug campaign will continue relentlessly. We want to assure the public that no person involved in drug trafficking or illegal activities will be spared,” he said.
Police sources indicated that preliminary questioning suggests the accused may have been involved in supplying drugs to peddlers in the region. The investigation is now focusing on tracing their supply chain and identifying other members of the network. Officials have not ruled out links to cross-border trafficking routes, given Kangra’s proximity to Punjab and the pattern of recent seizures.
The arrests come amid a series of intensified police operations across Himachal Pradesh aimed at curbing the growing drug menace, particularly the spread of heroin among youth. Authorities have urged the public to report suspicious movements or activities to local police, stressing that community cooperation is key to breaking the supply chain.
