Kaithal, October 18 – A special detective unit of the Kaithal police arrested four alleged drug peddlers and seized 305.1 kg of doda post valued at around Rs 40 lakh from two vehicles, officials said on Saturday.

The arrests were made under the “Drug-Free Kaithal” campaign being conducted on the directions of Superintendent of Police (SP) Upasana. The operation was led by DSP Sushil Prakash and carried out under the supervision of Sub-Inspector Ramesh Kumar, in-charge of the special detective unit, along with Sub-Inspector Mukesh Kumar and his team.

While patrolling early Friday morning, the team received information that two white cars were transporting a large consignment of doda post from Khanauri bypass toward Kaithal via Padla Road. Acting on the tip-off, police set up a naka on Padla Road and began checking vehicles.

“At around 6 a.m., two white cars with Haryana and Uttar Pradesh registration numbers approached the checkpoint. When signalled to stop, the drivers tried to flee, but our team managed to intercept them,” DSP Prakash said.

A search of the vehicles in his presence led to the recovery of 149.31 kg of doda post packed in 10 sacks from one car and another 155.79 kg from 11 plastic sacks in the second, making a total of 305.10 kg.

The accused were identified as Gurjant Singh and Inder Singh of Alipur Rahian village, and Naseeb Singh and Jagga Singh of Dhabi Gujran village, both in Patiala, Punjab. Police seized both vehicles used in the smuggling and arrested the four men on the spot.

“Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused procured the contraband from Kota, Rajasthan. We will seek their remand for further interrogation to trace the supply chain,” DSP Prakash said.
