Four Nagar Kirtans to Traverse for Guru Tegh Bahadur’s 350th Martyrdom: Sood

Chandigarh, November 5: Punjab will observe the 350th Martyrdom Anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji with four Nagar Kirtans scheduled across the state, officials said. The processions will begin on November 19 from different locations and converge at Sri Anandpur Sahib by November 22, covering a combined distance of 1,563 kilometres.

Tarunpreet Singh Sond, Punjab’s Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister, noted that the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs has been tasked with organizing the events. “We invite devotees from across the country and abroad to join the Nagar Kirtans and pay their respects to Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji,” he said.

The principal Nagar Kirtan will start from Srinagar on November 19, moving through Jammu, Pathankot, Dasuya, Hoshiarpur, Mahilpur, and Garhshankar before reaching Sri Anandpur Sahib. Scheduled halts include Jammu on November 19, Pathankot on November 20, and Hoshiarpur on November 21, covering 544 kilometres.

A second route from Gurdaspur will pass through Batala, Baba Bakala, Sri Amritsar Sahib, Tarn Taran, Goindwal Sahib, Kapurthala, Kartarpur, Jalandhar, Banga, and Balachaur. Stops are planned at Sri Amritsar Sahib on November 20 and Jalandhar on November 21, spanning 345 kilometres.

Two additional processions, representing the Malwa region, will start from Faridkot and Talwandi Sabo respectively, on November 20. The Faridkot route will pass through Ferozepur, Moga, Jagraon, Ludhiana, Khanna, Sirhind, Fatehgarh Sahib, Morinda, Chamkaur Sahib, and Ropar, pausing at Ludhiana and Fatehgarh Sahib, covering 320 kilometres. The Talwandi Sabo route will move through Bathinda, Barnala, Sangrur, Patiala, Rajpura, Banur, Mohali, Kurali, and Ropar, halting at Sangrur and Mohali for a total of 354 kilometres.

Sond urged residents to take part in other commemorative activities being held across Punjab, emphasizing the historical significance of the 350th anniversary of the Guru’s martyrdom.
