UTTARKASHI, Uttarakhand, May 8 — Four tourists lost their lives in a helicopter crash near Uttarkashi on Thursday morning, while two other individuals sustained injuries, according to preliminary reports from local authorities.
The helicopter, carrying a total of six people, was flying from Dehradun to the Harsil helipad when it went down under unclear circumstances.
“Initial inputs suggest that four persons onboard are dead. Two others have survived but are injured,” a local police officer at the scene said.
The incident has prompted an immediate response from multiple agencies. Teams from the police, Army, and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), along with ambulances and emergency medical services, were dispatched to the crash site shortly after the incident was reported.
Officials said efforts are underway to evacuate the injured and recover the bodies. “Our focus is on stabilizing the injured and determining what caused the crash,” said a disaster response official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation, and authorities have yet to confirm the identities of the deceased.
