MUMBAI, July 4: The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has lifted its ban on actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh specifically for his role in Border 2, following a direct appeal from producer Bhushan Kumar.
The move comes in the wake of backlash over Diljit’s collaboration with Pakistani actor Hania Aamir in Sardaar Ji 3, which triggered calls for non-cooperation from the industry body.
Confirming the development, FWICE president BN Tiwari told India Today, “Yes, the ban has been revoked for this project.” He added that the decision was made after Bhushan Kumar personally approached the federation and requested that Diljit be allowed to continue shooting for Border 2.
However, FWICE made it clear that this exemption is limited. Filmmaker and FWICE member Ashoke Pandit stated, “Non-cooperation against Diljit still stands. Any filmmaker who chooses to cast him in future projects should be ready to face the consequences. The Federation will not be responsible for any financial losses.”
The warning underscores FWICE’s ongoing displeasure with Diljit’s professional choices, despite the temporary reprieve.
The statement follows a social media post by Diljit, who appeared to dismiss rumours of being replaced in Border 2. The actor shared a behind-the-scenes video from the set, showing him in costume, stepping out of his vanity van and rehearsing a dance sequence. The clip was captioned simply: “BORDER 2.”
While the ban has been relaxed for now, the federation’s position leaves Diljit’s future in Bollywood uncertain, with Border 2 emerging as a rare exception amid an otherwise continuing industry standoff.
