Mohali, March 11: CGC University Mohali hosted an interactive panel discussion centered on the theme “The Conscious Generation: How Gen Z is Leading the Sustainability Wave.” Organized by the Department of Fashion Design and Multimedia, the event brought together academic and industry leaders to discuss the pivotal role of young designers in fostering ethical practices within the fashion and media sectors.
The session featured a diverse group of professionals, including Tejinder Singh Fatehpur, Founder and Editor-in-Chief; Dr. Sumita Sikka, HOD at GGDSD College Chandigarh; Dr. Shipra Sharma, Assistant Professor at NIFT Panchkula; and corporate trainer Disha. Under the guidance of Department Head Ms. Sonam and event in-charge Ms. Ruchi, the experts explored how modern consumer behavior is shifting toward environmental responsibility.
Moderated by RJ Mrinal, the discussion focused on the integration of sustainable materials and ethical production methods into the mainstream market. The panelists stated that digital platforms have become primary tools for spreading awareness, allowing Gen Z to influence global industry standards through conscious consumption. The experts noted that the transition to a responsible future depends heavily on the innovative thinking and digital awareness of the current student population.
During an active question-and-answer segment, more than 300 students sought advice on career opportunities and sustainable design approaches. The panelists affirmed that industry expectations are increasingly leaning toward environmentally conscious lifestyles and professional practices. Dr. Sumita Sikka and Dr. Shipra Sharma maintained that academic institutions must continue bridging the gap between classroom learning and industrial sustainability requirements.
The visiting experts declared that the enthusiasm shown by the participants was a positive indicator for the future of the industry.
