Chandigarh, October 29: German multinational Freudenberg Group has invested ₹339 crore in two manufacturing units at Morinda in Punjab’s Rupnagar district, marking one of the largest foreign direct investments in the state’s recent industrial drive.
Officials said the facilities, which produce vehicle seals and anti-vibration components, have already provided direct employment to around 200 people and created thousands of indirect jobs through local supply chains and services. The plants are designed with solar power and water conservation systems, aligning with the state’s push for sustainable industry.
Freudenberg’s global chief executive Dr. Mohsen Sohi said the company’s investment reflected its “complete confidence in the people and government of Punjab.” Shivsailam G., a senior executive at Freudenberg India, added that the new factories were “built with the support of the state government and contribute to India’s industrial growth.”
The investment is part of the broader ₹1.23 lakh crore worth of proposals Punjab has received since 2022, projected to generate 4.7 lakh jobs. The state government said its ‘Invest Punjab’ single-window system has streamlined clearances, enabling new ventures to begin operations within days.
Freudenberg joins a growing list of international investors in Punjab, including Netherlands-based De Heus (₹150 crore in Rajpura), Switzerland’s Nestlé (₹2,000 crore in Dera Bassi), and Germany’s Claas (₹500 crore in Beas).
