Amritsar/Chandigarh, 30 Dec. 2024: Sri Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh called for the central government to abandon its “stubborn attitude” and engage in dialogue with the farmers.

It is pertinent to mention that Punjab witnessed a shutdown today, led by farmers protesting at the Khanauri border for their demands from the central government, with farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal on a hunger strike.

The impact of the shutdown was felt across markets, railway stations, bus stands, and both government and private institutions in the state.

The Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee supported the shutdown call by closing all its institutions, according to reports.

Sri Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh called for the central government to abandon its “stubborn attitude” and engage in dialogue with the farmers.

He underlined that the prolonged struggle, now compounded by Dallewal’s hunger strike, accentuated the government’s intransigence.

Singh stated that the government’s refusal to resolve the issue through negotiations had forced the farmers to protest in Delhi.
