Chandigarh, March 18: Social media platform X, formerly Twitter, faced a significant service disruption on Wednesday evening, affecting thousands of users across India and the United States. According to real-time monitoring site Downdetector, user reports indicated widespread problems with accessing feeds and opening shared links. In India, the number of reported outages surged from approximately 1,227 at 8:17 PM to over 4,500 reports by 8:30 PM IST, signaling a rapid escalation in technical difficulties.

Users affirmed that while they continued to receive platform alerts, they were unable to refresh their timelines or view new content. Many stated that upon attempting to update their feeds, they were met with a “something went wrong, try again” message. Mobile application users declared that the platform displayed a “cannot retrieve posts at this time” notification, effectively halting real-time communication for a large portion of the user base.

The technical glitch was not limited to the Indian subcontinent, as Downdetector also logged over 14,000 reports in the United States within a 30-minute window. Technical experts maintained that the synchronized nature of the outage suggests a broader systemic issue within the platform’s global servers. Officials from X have yet to issue a formal statement regarding the cause of the disruption or an estimated time for full restoration of services.
