Muktsar, Jan 27: The parents of fugitive gangster Satinderjit Singh, better known as Goldy Brar, were taken into custody by the Muktsar district police on Monday.

The arrests of Shamsher Singh and Preetpal Kaur were carried out in Amritsar as part of an investigation into an extortion case filed in 2024. This development follows a coordinated effort by state authorities to disrupt the networks of high-profile criminals operating from abroad.

The legal action stems from a formal complaint lodged by a resident of Udekaran village. Sub-Inspector Darshan Singh, SHO of Sadar Muktsar police station, confirmed the details of the operation and the identity of those detained.

“Goldy Brar’s father and mother were arrested from Amritsar in an extortion case registered on the complaint of a resident of Udekaran village,” the SHO said.

The couple resides in Adesh Nagar on Kotkapura Road, though the family has original roots in Faridkot district. Shamsher Singh is a former Assistant Sub-Inspector who was handed a compulsory retirement in 2021.

This administrative action was taken after his name was linked to a murder case within the Muktsar district.

The primary suspect in this wider investigation, Goldy Brar, remains an absconder and is a key figure in the 2022 assassination of singer Sidhu Moosewala in Mansa.

While he originally traveled to Canada on a student visa in 2017, the National Investigation Agency recently noted that he is suspected to be hiding in either Canada or the United States.
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs officially designated Brar as an individual terrorist under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act last year. While he was previously a close associate of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, intelligence reports indicated a rift between the groups recently.

The Punjab police continue to monitor the family’s activities as they streamline the crackdown on organized crime syndicates across the region.
