Batala, November 4, 2024—With the onset of cooler weather, dengue cases have begun emerging in Punjab, prompting the government to issue a health advisory. So far, Batala Civil Hospital has reported four dengue-positive patients, a figure notably lower than last year, according to officials. However, concerns remain as dengue season continues, and public health efforts are intensifying.
The Senior Medical Officer (SMO) of Batala Civil Hospital outlined symptoms and prevention strategies for the public. “We are currently in the dengue season, and a high fever is often the first sign,” he noted. To curb the spread, the hospital has initiated a campaign called “Every Friday Dengue War,” with health teams visiting homes weekly to raise awareness.
“People are being alerted not to allow water to stand near their homes, as stagnant water attracts mosquitoes, increasing the risk of dengue,” the SMO explained. Residents are advised to empty containers, cover water sources, and take precautions to prevent mosquito breeding.
Health authorities hope the campaign, combined with public awareness, will help control the spread of dengue in the region this season.
