Chandigarh, March 18 — The Punjab government has identified 40 schools to introduce four new vocational courses at the senior secondary level, covering digital marketing, financial services and insurance, healthcare, and beauty and wellness.

Under the Hunar Sikhiya Schools programme, 6,400 students will be enrolled in Class XI during the current financial year. Each school will offer 160 seats across the four courses.

Education Minister Harjot Bains said the courses were designed in collaboration with industry experts, including professionals from the Indian Institute of Delhi, Cambridge University Press and Assessment, and Max Healthcare.

“Every year, 6,400 trained students will roll out from these schools,” said a senior government official overseeing the pilot project.

Students will also undergo three foundational courses covering communication skills, soft skills, and digital tools.

Earlier, the Education Department conducted a training camp for principals of the selected schools and district vocational coordinators in Fatehgarh Sahib.
