Govt Investing Rs 2,415 Cr in Tourism

Shimla, 7 January 2025: The Himachal Pradesh government will invest ₹2,415 crore in tourism infrastructure, aiming to boost employment and strengthen the sector, said Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu while reviewing tourism projects.

Calling tourism the backbone of the state’s economy, Sukhu announced major initiatives, including ₹150.27 crore for Shiv Dham development in Mandi and ₹51.70 crore for the beautification of the Baba Balak Nath temple in Hamirpur. “The government is also allocating ₹78.09 crore for upgrading Nagrota Bagwan and Palampur town in Kangra district,” he said.

Plans include the creation of wellness centers in Nadaun, Nagrota Bagwan, Kullu, and Manali with a combined budget of ₹280.39 crore. Naggar Castle in Kullu is set to undergo conservation and restoration at an estimated cost of ₹8.64 crore.

Adventure tourism is another key focus. A rafting complex will be built in Nadaun, while ice skating and roller skating rinks are planned in Manali, Dharamshala, and Shimla, requiring ₹163.50 crore.

Improving air connectivity is a priority, Sukhu added, noting that heliports are being developed. The tourism department has been instructed to expedite operational clearances from the DGCA for heliports in Sanjauli, Rampur, Kangani Dhar, and Baddi. The Chief Minister also called for ensuring daily flights on the Dharamshala-Shimla route and exploring the establishment of drone stations across the state.

HPTDC Chairman Raghubir Singh Bali and senior officials were present at the review meeting.
