Chandigarh/Shimla/New Delhi, 1 February 2025: In the 2025-26 Union Budget presented on Saturday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced plans to develop 50 top tourist destinations in collaboration with state governments.
She also revealed that MUDRA loans will be extended to support homestay accommodations, aiming to boost local tourism.
“Medical tourism will be promoted in partnership with the private sector,” Sitharaman stated, underlining the government’s commitment to this growing industry.
Further, she noted a special focus on sites associated with the life of Lord Buddha, aiming to attract both domestic and international pilgrims.
The budget also allocates financial support for the Western Kosi Canal project in Bihar’s Mithilanchal region. This initiative is expected to benefit 50,000 hectares of agricultural land, enhancing irrigation and supporting local farmers.
These measures reflect the government’s strategy to strengthen tourism infrastructure and support agricultural development, contributing to economic growth and employment opportunities across the country.
