GSC Backs Jathedar’s Call for United Sikh Parchar

Chandigarh, May 4, 2025: The Global Sikh Council (GSC) has voiced full support for Singh Sahib Gyani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, Jathedar of Sri Akal Takhat Sahib, Sri Amritsar, and his recent appeal for unity among Sikh preachers—including Bhai Ranjit Singh Dhadhrianwala—under the spiritual and temporal leadership of Sri Akal Takhat Sahib to revive the mission of Sikhi parchar across India.

In a joint statement, GSC President Lady Kanwaljit Kaur, Dr. Karminder Singh (Chairman, Religious Affairs Committee), Jagir Singh (Chairman, Legal Affairs Committee), and Secretary Harjeet Singh described the Jathedar’s outreach as a “much-needed and timely spiritual intervention” in response to the alarming erosion of Sikh religious engagement, particularly in Punjab and other Indian regions.

The Council has urged the Jathedar to take a step further by formally inviting all sincere and effective parcharaks who have been distanced due to past excommunication or disciplinary actions.

“We believe the time has come for reconciliation and unity, not exclusion,” the statement read.

“Sri Akal Takhat Sahib must reflect the Gurmat values of inclusivity, forgiveness, and collective chardi kala, standing above factional divisions.”

GSC leaders expressed grave concern over the rising trend of conversions and the waning interest in Sikh teachings among youth.

“Sikhi parchar is in serious decline,” they noted, adding, “Excommunication is a construct of Christian ecclesiastical tradition and has no place in Gurmat or Sikh Maryada. Our path is one of sarbat da bhala—the well-being of all.”

Lady Kanwaljit Kaur reiterated the GSC’s global commitment to Sikh unity and education.

“Our member organizations in over 30 countries are prepared to support the Akal Takhat Sahib by mobilizing well-trained, spiritually grounded, and intellectually prepared parcharaks. The Khalsa Panth must move forward as one. The time calls for wisdom, not walls.”

Reaffirming its dedication to the supremacy of Sri Akal Takhat Sahib, panthic unity, and Gurmat-rooted dialogue, the Global Sikh Council urged Sikh leadership to transcend past grievances and collectively foster the propagation of Sikh values and the Guru’s message.
