GT vs PBKS: Punjab Kings Outclass Gujarat Titans by 11 Runs

 GT vs PBKS Highlights: In  a thrilling IPL match, Punjab Kings got off to a great start to their campaign by defeating Gujarat Titans by 11 runs. In this match played at Narendra Modi Stadium on Tuesday, Punjab batted first and scored a huge score of 243 runs for 5 wickets in 20 overs. This is Punjab’s second-highest score in IPL history. In reply, Gujarat’s team could only score 232 runs for the loss of 5 wickets despite playing the full overs. Arshdeep Singh and Vijaykumar Vishak’s brilliant bowling in the death overs ensured Punjab’s victory.

Punjab’s Strong Stand Against Gujarat

After losing the toss and batting first, Punjab Kings started with Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya. Both added 28 runs for the first wicket, but Prabhsimran was dismissed by Kagiso Rabada after scoring 5 runs. After this, captain Shreyas Iyer and debutant Priyansh Arya took charge. Both shared a 51-run partnership in 21 balls. Priyansh played a brilliant innings of 47 runs (7 fours, 2 sixes) in 23 balls, but Rashid Khan dismissed him.

Shreyas Iyer played a captaincy innings and scored 97* runs in 42 balls. His innings included 5 fours and 9 sixes. His unbeaten partnership of 81 runs with Shashank Singh (44*) took Punjab to a strong score. Azmatullah Umarzai (16) and Marcus Stoinis (20) also made useful contributions, while Glenn Maxwell returned to the pavilion without opening the account. Maxwell reached the top in this matter by getting out on zero 19 times in IPL. Sai Kishore took 3 wickets for Gujarat, while Rabada and Rashid got 1-1 wickets.

GT vs PBKS: Shreyas Iyer created history

Shreyas Iyer created history by scoring 97* in his very first match as captain. He became the third captain to score the most runs on IPL debut. Sanju Samson (119, 2021) is first in this list and Mayank Agarwal (97*, 2021) is second. With this win, Punjab Kings have made a great start to the tournament, while Gujarat will have to rethink their strategy.

Gujarat Titans Falls Short Against Punjab Kings

Chasing the target of 244 runs, Gujarat Titans got a great start from captain Shubman Gill and Sai Sudarshan. Both added 61 runs for the first wicket. Gill was dismissed by Maxwell after scoring 33 runs in 14 balls. After this, Sai Sudarshan and Jos Buttler shared a partnership of 84 runs in 40 balls. Sudarshan missed a century by scoring 74 runs, when Arshdeep Singh sent him to the pavilion. Butler scored 54 and Rutherford scored 46, but tight bowling by Arshdeep and Vijaykumar Vishak in the death overs dashed Gujarat’s hopes. Shahrukh Khan (6*) and Arshad Khan (1*) remained unbeaten.

Arshdeep took 2 wickets for Punjab, Maxwell and Marco Jansen took 1-1 wickets. Vishak may not have got a wicket, but his accurate bowling in the 19th over kept Gujarat away from victory.
