MOHALI, May 27: A youth opened fire during a street altercation in Lakhnaur village, Mohali, around 5 p.m. on Sunday, narrowly missing his target and sparking panic in the area. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
CCTV footage captured moments before the shooting shows a scooter-borne individual glancing back at two youths walking behind him — one of whom was visibly armed. The situation escalated quickly as a verbal dispute broke out between the trio.
“One of the men suddenly pulled out a firearm and fired a shot,” said an eyewitness, who was sitting near a nearby mobile shop. “The bullet struck the shop’s wall, just a few feet from where I was sitting. It was terrifying.”
In retaliation, the youth who was targeted hurled a brick at the armed individual, who then fled the scene along with the scooterist. The confrontation, though brief, caused panic among bystanders.
Police said they are reviewing CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses. “We are verifying the identities of those involved and will proceed with appropriate action once the investigation is complete,” said a police official. An FIR is expected to be lodged following preliminary inquiries.
Authorities have appealed to the public for any information that could help identify the suspects.
