7 April, 2025:  The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has made a big announcement on Monday. Harry Brook, ranked number 2 in the ICC Test rankings, has been made the new captain of England’s ODI and T20 team. He has replaced Jos Buttler, who left the captaincy after the team’s early exit in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 held in Pakistan.

Brook expressed happiness

26-year-old Brook said on this occasion, This is a great honor for me. Ever since I was young and played cricket in Burley in Wharfedale, it was my dream to play for Yorkshire and England and maybe one day captain the team. We have a lot of talent in the country. I am excited that now we will move forward, try to win the series and prepare to win big tournaments like the World Cup. I will give my best.

Brook’s journey so far

Brook made his debut for England in January 2022. He has played 26 ODIs so far, scoring 816 runs at an average of 34 and his best score is 110 runs. At the same time, he has played 44 matches in T20, in which his highest score has been 81 runs. He was also a part of the 2022 T20 World Cup winning team.

Brook is currently second in the ICC batsman rankings for Test cricket. For the last one year, he was playing the role of vice-captain in England’s ODI and T20 team. He also led the team as captain in the ODI series against Australia in 2024 when Butler was not available.

Brook has also previously captained the Under-19 team and captained England in the Under-19 World Cup held in New Zealand in 2018.

BCCI had banned him before IPL 2025

BCCI has banned Harry Brook from this tournament for two years before the start of IPL 2025. In fact, under the new rules, Brook cannot participate in the IPL auction for the next two years, because he withdrew his name from this season at the last moment. Delhi Capitals bought him for Rs 6.25 crore in the mega auction held in November.
