CHANDIGARH, Nov 27 — Haryana Urban Local Bodies Minister Vipul Goel on Wednesday announced the release of ₹9.23 crore in long-pending arrears for sanitation workers dating back to 2017. The declaration was made during the Safai Mitra Samman and Constitution Day celebrations.
“The decision to clear these arrears reflects Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini’s commitment to the welfare and dignity of frontline cleaning staff,” Goel said while addressing workers and officials.
According to the department, the Municipal Corporation disbursed ₹7.87 crore in enhanced wage benefits to 840 sanitation workers and nearly ₹1 crore to families of deceased, retired and former workers. Scholarships were also given to children of sanitation staff.
During the event, Goel administered the Constitution Day oath, noting that “the Constitution is India’s pride and every citizen must uphold its values.”
The programme concluded with the felicitation of sanitation workers and scholarship recipients.
