Chandigarh, August 27: Extortion incidents in Haryana rose by 17 per cent through July 2026 compared to the same period last year, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini stated before the Legislative Assembly on Thursday. State crime data records 296 extortion cases registered up to July this year, up from 253 reported during the corresponding timeline in 2025.
Responding to a Calling Attention Motion introduced by INLD MLAs Aditya Devi Lal and Arjun Chautala regarding state law and order, the administration outlined primary factors driving the upward trend.
“This increase is primarily attributable to the anonymous nature of overseas callers, who use digital applications and other technologies to conceal their identity and location,” maintained Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.
State enforcement machinery has mobilized specialized wings, including the Special Task Force (STF) and the Anti-Terror Squad (ATS), to track criminal elements. The units are conducting intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling organized crime syndicates, neutralizing gangster networks, and stopping the proliferation of illegal weapons across district lines.
