SOLAN, April 7— Himachal Pradesh police arrested two men, including a serving Haryana police head constable, with 157 grams of heroin (chitta) in Solan district on April 4, officials confirmed Monday.

The accused have been identified as Pradeep Kumar, 40, and Mohit, 21, both residents of Kalayat tehsil in Kaithal district, Haryana. Police said the two had traveled to Himachal to sell the contraband.

Solan Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh said a patrol team from Sadar Police Station acted on a tip-off about two individuals roaming suspiciously near the Dohri Dawal area. “The team apprehended both men and recovered 157 grams of heroin from their possession,” Singh said.

A case under Sections 21 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 has been registered. Both accused were produced in court and sent to five-day police remand.

Investigation revealed that Pradeep Kumar is a head constable in the Haryana Police, posted in Kaithal. “He had been trafficking drugs for a long time and used to deliver heroin in Shimla, often while dressed in uniform to mislead local authorities,” the SP noted.

Police said the duo initially attempted to sell the heroin in Narkanda, Shimla, but shifted to Solan after failing to negotiate a price. Their criminal background is now under scrutiny.

“The case is being investigated thoroughly, and further arrests are not ruled out,” Singh added.
