PANCHKULA, Jan 17 — Haryana Police have intensified their digital surveillance by flagging 1,018 social media links and profiles used to spread misinformation and execute financial scams. The state’s cyber wing, working with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, has already secured the removal of 583 of these items as part of a month-long crackdown.

The operation focuses on identifying content that is provocative, inflammatory, or capable of disturbing public peace. Authorities noted that an additional 435 links are currently under final review by various social media platforms following formal take-down notices issued under the Information Technology Act.

“Cyber Haryana teams are constantly alert, and immediate action is being taken on sensitive or objectionable posts,” Director General of Police Ajay Singhal mentioned on Saturday.

The DGP noted that the department has also initiated a specific drive against fraudulent trading and investment applications. Since Jan. 12, officials have identified 28 such suspicious apps, with 14 already deleted from digital stores.

Additional DGP (Cyber) Sibash Kabiraj said the campaign aims to foster a more responsible digital environment through public cooperation. Senior officials mentioned that even isolated misleading posts can trigger serious real-world consequences in a connected society.

Residents are urged to verify the authenticity of any investment platform before transferring funds and to report suspicious links to the 1930 cyber helpline.
