Chandigarh, March 5 — The Haryana government has increased the per-acre production limit for several Rabi crops for 2024-25, a decision aimed at benefiting farmers struggling to sell their produce at the minimum support price (MSP) due to higher yields.
The revised limits will be implemented in the 2025-26 Rabi procurement season.
As per the new guidelines, the per-acre production limit for barley has been raised from 15 quintals to 16 quintals, gram from 5 quintals to 6 quintals, sunflower from 8 quintals to 9 quintals, and moong (summer crop) from 3 quintals to 4 quintals.
Besides, for the first time, an average production estimate of 4 quintals per acre has been set for lentils, while wheat remains capped at 25 quintals per acre.
The decision follows recommendations from a government-constituted committee that studied the production limits per acre in response to farmers’ concerns.
Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini approved the committee’s suggestions to address the challenges faced by high-yield farmers in selling their crops at MSP.
A Haryana government spokesperson said the move takes into account rising average production and will ensure better profits for farmers growing gram, barley, sunflower, moong, and lentils.
