Chandigarh, March 12: Haryana has successfully identified 250 schools to be developed under the Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) scheme, marking a major step in the state’s implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. During a review meeting on Wednesday, Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi stated that these institutions are being transformed into future-ready centers of excellence, featuring green campuses and modern digital infrastructure.
The Chief Secretary affirmed that the state would honor the three best-performing PM SHRI schools and three Model Sanskriti Schools during the upcoming Independence Day celebrations. He maintained that the recognition will focus on achievements in academic excellence, innovative teaching practices, and infrastructure development. The education department has been directed to establish a transparent procedure for selecting the awardees.
Officials declared that the scheme currently covers 137 out of 143 blocks in Haryana, ensuring a balanced distribution of quality education across the state. For the 2025–26 fiscal year, a budget of ₹191.69 crore has been approved, with each school eligible for up to ₹2 crore in funding. The Chief Secretary asserted that these funds cover 21 key components, including solar panels, waste management systems, and specialized labs aimed at holistic student development.
To ensure timely execution, district-level committees led by Deputy Commissioners have been tasked with monitoring the progress of these schools. The Chief Secretary also instructed that vacant staff positions be filled immediately to maintain smooth operations. He affirmed that these schools should serve as benchmark institutions not only within the state but at a national level.
