Abohar, Oct 4: In a major breakthrough in the broad-daylight murder of cloth showroom owner Sanjay Verma, the Haryana Special Task Force (STF) has arrested key accused Shakti Kumar from Hisar. The accused, a resident of Abohar, carried a reward of Rs 5 lakh announced by the Punjab Police for his evasion following the incident. STF personnel intercepted Shakti near the bypass flyover on Rajgarh Road after acting on specific intelligence, recovering an illegal .32-bore pistol and three live cartridges from his possession. Officials stated that Shakti allegedly played a critical role in facilitating the escape of the main shooters after the fatal attack.

The shooting occurred on July 7, 2025, when assailants opened fire on Verma as he stepped out of his car near his showroom in Abohar. Subsequent investigations led to multiple arrests across state lines, while two accused, Ram Ratan and Jaspreet Singh, were neutralized in separate police encounters. The two primary shooters, Rajinder Billa and Jaskaran alias Karan Katta, had been apprehended from Jodhpur by Rajasthan’s Anti-Gangster Task Force in late September. Law enforcement authorities affirmed that the Punjab Police will seek Shakti’s production warrant to bring him to Punjab for detailed interrogation and further legal proceedings.
