PANIPAT, March 13, 2026 — The Haryana State Commission for Women has directed the police to arrest singer-rapper Badshah after he failed to appear before the panel on Friday. The summons was issued in connection with his recent song ‘Tateeree,’ which has faced backlash for allegedly containing objectionable lyrics and visuals.
Commission Chairperson Renu Bhatia stated that the artiste was required to present himself in Panipat by 3 pm to address complaints regarding the track. When the singer did not appear, the commission instructed police departments in Panipat and Panchkula to take him into custody. Bhatia also declared that authorities could seize the singer’s passport to ensure he does not leave the country during the investigation.
“The notice required his personal appearance,” the commission maintained while declining a request for a virtual hearing. Although a legal team representing Badshah arrived at the venue, they stated that professional commitments and security concerns prevented the singer from attending in person. The lawyers requested additional time, but the panel affirmed that the physical presence of the artiste was mandatory.
The controversy involves allegations from social organizations that the ‘Tateeree’ music video disrespectfully portrays women. Complainants asserted that the video features girls in school uniforms dancing inside a Haryana Roadways bus while making inappropriate gestures.
The rapper has since issued a public apology via social media, stating that he never intended to offend the people of Haryana. While the video has been removed from YouTube and police cases have been registered in Jind and Panchkula, several khap panchayats continue to demand a total ban on the song and further legal action.
